Foundational Nutrition

Each programs begins with Foundational Nutrition, our introductory course. Whether you’re new to the field of nutrition or a seasoned professional, this prerequisite course provides the framework for becoming a Certified Nutrition Consultant.

 

Curriculum Outline

  • Module 1 introduces the essential principles of holistic nutrition, focusing on personalized, mindful eating and identifying how specific foods uniquely impact individual health. You will explore the roles and functions of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats) and understand their effects on energy levels, mood, and overall health.

    This module covers practical strategies for creating balanced meals and effective ways to help clients identify and address different types of food-related symptoms to allow them to feel their best. You'll gain the skills to effectively assess a client’s current eating habits and make thoughtful dietary recommendations that honor a client's individual nutritional needs and cultural food traditions.

  • Module 2 emphasizes the importance of food quality, offering practical strategies to help you identify the most nutrient-dense foods. You’ll learn how to interpret nutrition facts, read ingredient labels, and decipher various marketing claims.

    You’ll gain insights into preparation methods that reduce naturally occurring anti-nutrients present in certain foods to optimize bioavailability. This module also provides an introduction to micronutrients, supplements, food additives, digestion and absorption, bodily systems, and the microbiome.

  • Each weekly module contains a mix of coursework and learning materials to help you excel in your chosen specialty. These include:

    • Video lessons

    • Reading material

    • Client resources and handouts

    • 1 assignment

    • 1 quiz

    Foundational Nutrition also includes:

    • 1 Client Trial, which is a key learning component of each course, providing you with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you’ve acquired by working with a volunteer “client.”

    • 1 Final Exam to assess your comprehension and ensure you’ve obtained fundamental knowledge of the core concepts presented throughout the course.
