Sorayya Dossett is an animator-turned-Certified Nutrition Consultant. After the birth of her first child, the intense and delicate postpartum season caught her completely off-guard and left her feeling depleted. This experience ultimately led her to enroll in OBN to become a Certified Nutrition Consultant specializing in postpartum.

Sorayya is the founder of Hello Mother Goose, a nutrition practice that provides both one-on-one and group support to mamas and mamas-to-be. Her ultimate goal is to mother the mother; she wants postpartum care (and prepping for it!) to be just as normal as pregnancy and labor prep. She truly believes when the mother thrives, the whole family can thrive.

What would you say to OBN students and grads looking to start their own holistic nutrition businesses?

Focus on what lights you up. For me, I had such an intense and difficult first postpartum experience, that I felt fired up to help others have a more easeful journey.  Find your niche and roll with it.

When it comes to what I post on social media, I share both recipes and content about motherhood because I find it to be a positive outlet for me to share my personal experiences around being a mother.

How have you navigated the challenges of switching careers and starting a business?

The biggest challenge is starting this career while being a new parent, but it has also been my greatest motivator because I feel so close to the season of knowing how much nourishment moms need. I find pockets of time to make sure I can expand my business and share knowledge with my community. Getting messages of appreciation from people through my Instagram keeps me inspired. Connecting with real people is so special.

What is the best feedback you receive from clients?

Hearing from clients that they have been able to be more present for their families because they feel so much better after our consultations is why I love this work. In my opinion, dialing in your nutrition is so powerful because it means you have the energy and vitality to do all the amazing things you want to in this life.

We asked Sorayya to finish the following sentences:

  • My favorite form of self-care is… a good long walk, holding a piping hot matcha latte, listening to a podcast, with a sleeping baby in the carrier.

  • Words of wisdom I live by are… The good parts don’t last forever and neither do the hard. This line reminds me that when things are hard (especially in parenting!), they do not last forever. And when things are amazing, to truly cherish those moments and express my gratitude.

  • A podcast I have been loving is… The Motherdaze Podcast. And Armchair Expert…always.

  • A book I can’t stop quoting is… The First Forty Days

And to finish, some recipe links:

  • Milk-making marshmallows: With shatavari, a renowned herb used in Ayurveda that supports postpartum, and benefits hormones, uterine recovery, lactation support, and mood. I make them at least once per week, especially as I’m in the newborn days of breastfeeding!

  • Five simple postpartum snack recipes: I’m also making these one-handed breastfeeding-friendly snacks from my popular freebie guide. Yummy and most importantly simple recipes for new (and seasoned) mamas.
