Carson Meyer is a birth doula, nutrition consultant and founder of C & The Moon, a California-based skincare company. Taking pride in hosting educational circles for women all over the country to help them access community and information on healthy pregnancy, birth, and postpartum practices.

Carson began her work as a doula in 2017 and graduated from OBN in 2021. The OBN certification provided Carson with another layer of knowledge that she could share with clients to support them in a healthy pregnancy and postpartum.

We sat down with Carson to take a deeper dive and gather learnings from our alumni who has built out a successful business from her family kitchen, the role that an education with Oh Baby has made upon her life and community as well as how she remains motivated.

What has been the value of your OBN education?

I use the wisdom from my OBN certification every day, in so many ways, with clients, for myself and as a mama. One aspect of the curriculum that I really benefited from is having a deeper understanding around pre and postnatal supplementation. There are so many brands out there to choose from and very little guidance from doctors. It’s so important to be able to support clients in finding good quality supplements that will optimize their health and even alleviate certain symptoms of pregnancy and postpartum to mitigate the need for pharmaceuticals.

How have you found running a small business?

Someone once described to me as putting little fires out and that’s often what it feels like. The leadership and organization that it takes to run a company doesn’t always come as naturally as working with my doula or nutrition clients. I overcome these small fires by taking a deep breath and grounding into what really matters most in life. I remind myself to trust the ebb and flow of the universe and not to have knee jerk reactions to things that arise.

What helps you to stay motivated? This work can be taxing at times.

I feel really lucky to LOVE what I do and my passion keeps me motivated every day. That said, at times I find myself procrastinating and getting caught up in mental blocks that keep me from growing. It always helps me to remember that there are so many women out there whose lives will change for the better when they have access to this information. There is something so motivating about knowing that your work can and will change the course of someone's life for the better.

Okay, now it is time for some rapid fire… finish these sentences:

  • My favorite form of self-care is… “A bath and massage with C & The Moon body scrub and oil.”

  • An ideal day would be… “Waking up to cuddles from my daughter, yoga, sauna, meeting with clients, a hike and a dip in the ocean or a swimming hole, home-cooked dinner with friends surrounded by our laughing babes.”

  • Words of wisdom I live by are… “Do your work and then step back. The only path to serenity “- Lao Tzu
